WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 28, 2018) – NJCAA No. 3/Region 8 No. 2 Tallahassee Community College punched its ticket to the championship game of the Title IX Classic with a 92-53 win over NJCAA (DIII) No. 2 Hostos (N.Y.) Community College on Friday afternoon at the historic D.C. Armory.
Tallahassee, who is 17-0 and has won 22 straight games overall, will play NJCAA No. 22 Harford (Md.) Community College at 4 p.m. Saturday for the tournament title. Like the Eagles, Harford will bring an undefeated record into the game – the Owls are 14-0.
Tallahassee opened Friday's game on an 11-1 run and the rout was on. Daisha Bradford beat the first quarter horn with a three-pointer to give the Eagles a 29-11 lead.
Hostos, the defending NJCAA Division III National Champions, showed some fight as the second quarter began. The Caimans opened the quarter on a 10-3 run to claw back within 11 but, almost as quickly, Tallahassee scored six unanswered points to push its lead back to 17 (38-21) en route to a 57-31 halftime lead.
The Eagles increased their lead to 76-47 after three quarters then held Hostos to just six points in the fourth quarter, the 14th time they've held opponents to single-digits in a quarter.
Saturday's championship game will feature two of the top three scoring teams in the country. Tallahassee is currently second overall at 99.8 points per game while Harford ranks third at 94.7 points per game.
The Owls also featured the nation's leading scorer and rebounder – sophomore forward Dahnye Redd is currently averaging 23.8 points and 15.7 rebounds.
