TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 19, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College's women's basketball team will continue its preseason schedule on Saturday by hosting the Southern Challenge Jamboree.
Hurricane Michael altered the event on numerous fronts.
The jamboree was originally scheduled for October 13 and when TCC's Lifetime Sports Complex transitioned to a Red Cross Shelter, the event had to find a new home and it did just that, relocating to Maclay School's Webster Center and Cartee Gymnasium.
Twenty-three teams were originally scheduled to participate but the list dwindled to 13 following the storm. Two of Tallahassee's Panhandle Conference rivals, Chipola College and Gulf Coast State College, suffered considerable damage in the recent hurricane and will be unable to attend.
The defending national champion Eagles headline the field, which includes two schools from Mississippi (East Central Community College and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College), one from North Carolina (Cape Fear Community College) and nine of Tallahassee's Region 8 (Florida) counterparts – College of Central Florida, Daytona State College, Florida State College-Jacksonville, Hillsborough Community College, Miami Dade College, Northwest Florida State College, Pensacola State College, Santa Fe College and St. Petersburg College.
Three games will be played simultaneously – two in Webster, one in Cartee – beginning at 11 a.m. and a new round will start each hour. The final round of games is scheduled for a 5 p.m. tip.
Tallahassee will play a quartet of games beginning at 11 a.m. in Webster against Florida State College-Jacksonville.
The Eagles' 1 p.m. game vs. Hillsborough will take place in Cartee followed by two more games in Webster – 3 p.m. vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast and 5 p.m. vs. Miami Dade.
General admission is $10.
