TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 31, 2016) – After sweeping its last two doubleheaders, Tallahassee Community College split a pair of games with Gulf Coast State College on Thursday, winning 4-3 in the opener and dropping the nightcap, 8-1.

In game one, Madisen Blair's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth scored the decisive runs in the Eagles' 4-3 victory.

Blair's home run answered a two-run shot by Gulf Coast State's Keala Cordeiro in the top half of the inning that gave the Commodores a brief 3-2 lead.

Alexandra Cook (11-7), who scattered 11 hits in the complete-game victory, pitched out of a pair of bases-loaded jams, including one in the sixth to protect the Eagles' one-run lead.

A leadoff single by Alaynah Weiss and a defensive miscue put the tying and go-ahead runs on with nobody out. Later, a two-out infield single loaded the bases but Cook induced a pop out by Bayleigh Heineman to end the scoring threat.

Cook retired the Commodores in order in the seventh to secure Tallahassee's sixth straight victory.

Before rallying in the fifth, the Eagles erased an early 1-0 deficit with a pair of second-inning runs.

With Blair on second, Casey Durham singled to right and a throwing error allowed Blair to score to tie the game. Two batters later, Khayreyah Parrish hit a bloop double down the left field line to score Durham.

Blair and Durham both went 2-for-3.

In game two, Tallahassee committed six errors in an 8-1 loss.

Blair's second homer of the day, a solo shot in the fourth, accounted for the Eagles' lone run.

Raya Moncus (8-6) took the loss in the circle.

With the split, Tallahassee missed an opportunity to pull into a second-place tie in the Panhandle Conference standings. At 4-4 in league play, the Eagles are one game back of Chipola College (5-3) and maintained their one-game lead on fourth-place Pensacola State College (2-4).

Tallahassee will travel to conference leader Northwest Florida State College on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. eastern.
