TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 5, 2016) – Freshman Jacob Winston scored a game-high 23 points and Jeremy Hayes added 19 as NJCAA No. 19/Region No. 4 Tallahassee Community College defeated South Georgia Technical College 84-57 on day two action at the Seals Financial Tip-off Classic.

Tallahassee is now 3-0 on the young season.

Winston, who played 24 minutes in a reserve role, hit seven of his first eight three-point attempts to threaten the school's single-game record of eight. He finished 7-of-12 from long distance and also grabbed six rebounds.

Hayes, meanwhile, added 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc, as he and Winston helped Tallahassee to its best shooting night from the third-point line on the season.

Tallahassee all but led wire-to-wire on Saturday. The Eagles scored the first four points of the game, but South Georgia Tech answered to tie the game at 4-all. David Simmons put Tallahassee back in front on a basket at the 17:16 mark of the first half and the Eagles never trailed again.

Tallahassee's tenacious defense gradually squeezed the life out of South Georgia Tech over the next 17 minutes to take control of the game. The Jets shot just 8-of-29 (27.6 percent) in the first half, and the Eagles extended their lead to as much as 21 before settling for a 43-23 lead at the break.

While the lead grew to as much as 29 in the second half, head coach Mark White emptied his bench as all 12 players saw action.

Simmons joined Winston and Hayes in double-figures with 12 points. He also pulled down nine rebounds, leading Tallahassee to a 50-43 advantage on the glass.

Eastern Florida State College beat Atlanta Metro State College 95-52 in Saturday's first game.

Tallahassee will travel to Albany (Ga.) Technical College on Tuesday. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

Tallahassee Community College Athletics would like to thank the Leon County Tourist Development Council for its support of the Seals Financial Tip-off Classic.
