TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 24, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College released its 2018 cross country schedule on Tuesday, exactly one month ahead of the Eagles' season-opening race.
Tallahassee's men's and women's teams will open the 2018 campaign on Friday, August 24 at the Cougar XC Challenge, hosted by Godby High School. The annual event will again take place at Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park.
Following trips to the VSU Border Clash (August 31, Valdosta, Ga.) and University of North Florida Invitational (September 7, Jacksonville, Fla.), the Eagles will run the remainder of the regular season schedule in their own back yard, where they are armed with one of the nation's top trail systems.
Including the Cougar XC Challenge, Tallahassee will run four of its six regular season events inside Leon County this fall.
On September 15, the Eagles will participate in Gulf Winds Track Club's annual Prefontaine Forest Run 5K at Silver Lake. For its remaining two "home" events, Tallahassee will hit the trail at nationally-renowned Apalachee Regional Park (ARP) for the FSU Invitational (October 12) and the inaugural TCC Eagle Invite (October 19).
The championship season will commence October 26 when, for the third straight season, the ARP will host the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Cross Country Championships, however, the 2018 event will include a men's 8K race for the first time.
Tallahassee launched a men's squad in 2017 and will be joined by three new programs this fall – Daytona State College, Florida State College at Jacksonville and Seminole State College – enough to meet the threshold for a sanctioned state championship event.
Three Region 8 schools – Daytona State, Florida Gateway College and Seminole State – will also debut women's cross country this fall, bringing the total number of teams for the championship 5K to eight.
The NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will take place November 10 in Garden City, Kan., while the NJCAA Half Marathon will be held one week later (November 17) in Gulf Shores, Ala.
