NICEVILLE, Fla. (April 5, 2018) – Northwest Florida State College scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Tallahassee Community College, 6-5, and complete a sweep of the teams' Panhandle Conference softball doubleheader on Thursday.
The Raiders won game one, 10-2.
Tallahassee (10-30-1) remains winless in PC play at 0-14 while Northwest Florida State (29-21-1) improved to 7-9 in league action.
The Eagles were poised to pick up their first PC win of the season following some clutch hitting in the latter innings.
The Raiders, however, rallied for three runs off Shaquoya Williams in their final at-bat to steal the victory. With a run already in, Summer Frye beat out an infield single to score Maggie Wheless from third with the tying run. Brittani Crawford, who was on second, never slowed down rounding third and beat the throw home for the winning run.
Tallahassee outhit Northwest Florida State, 11-5, in game two. Russell and Cassady both went 3-for-4, scored a run and drove in two.
Williams went the distance in the circle for Tallahassee.
In game one, the Raiders exploded for six runs in their final two at-bats to pick up the 10-2 win.
Northwest Florida State tied the game in its half of the first and added three runs an inning later.
Tallahassee scored its only other run in the third when Russell doubled home Malik.
Malik went 2-for-3 and Poot was 2-for-4.
Hanna Stapleton took the loss in the circle for Tallahassee.
The Eagles will host Chipola College for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., weather permitting.
