POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (November 4, 2017) – NJCAA No. 13/Region 8 No. 4 Tallahassee Community College closed the game on a 19-3 run to knock off Mineral Area (Mo.) College, 73-58, on the final day of the First Midwest Bank Classic, hosted by Three Rivers (Mo.) College.
Tallahassee returns home with two impressive road victories and will rest up until playing its home opener next Saturday against South Georgia Technical College.
After taking a 40-29 lead to the locker room, Tallahassee's offense stalled and could only muster 14 points over the first 15-plus minutes of the second half. Tallahassee answered to regain the lead, but the game was still hanging in the balance until a 10-0 run, capped by Trevor Lewis' fifth three-pointer of the game, put the Eagles in front 69-56 with 2:37 remaining.
Lewis scored 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from behind the arc and was one of four players to score in double-figures for Tallahassee.
Tallahassee blistered the nets in the first half, shooting 15-of-27 from the field (55.6 percent) en route to its 11-point halftime lead. The Eagles shot 51.0 percent (25-of-49) for the game while limiting Mineral Area to 33.3 percent (18-of-54).
